Abstract

563,578. Adjustable seats. CHESTON, A. S., EDMONDS, E. C., CHESTON, B., and OLDHAM, F. A. M. April 20, 1943, No. 6294. [Class 52 (ii)] A seat frame 1 is vertically and tiltably adjustable by the raising and lowering of links 3 to which it is attached to the seat base 2, the links 3 being moved by the pull of crossed links 25. attached to nuts 16, 17 on a right and left hand screwed spindle and operated by handle 5, the links being attached to a shaft 26 on the underside of the seat frame. Tension springs 36 assist the raising adjustment. The links 25 may or may not be coupled at their crossing point. When coupled, their back end couplings 27 are free to slide on the shaft 26 and only one screw-thread and nut is required at the front. Instead of full length links, a triangular fitting 39, Fig. 8, and half links 24 may be used. When the seat is to be attached to a vertical wall or bulkhead, its arrangement is shown in Fig. 11. If the back and front links 3 are of unequal length, or if they are not parallel, the tilt of the seat will also be varied.
