Abstract

563,377. Wireless receiving apparatus. MARCONI INSTRUMENTS, Ltd., and GARTHWAITE, E. Jan. 7, 1943, No. 338. [Class 40 (v)] A tuning and range changing device includes a plurality of sets of condenser stator vanes arranged radially about a spindle, a plurality of inductances associated with each set of stator vanes, a set of condenser rotor vanes mounted on the spindle, a set of further condenser vanes, and means for moving the stator vanes relatively to the further vanes for associating any one of the sets of stator vanes with the further vanes, and means for variably associating the set of rotor vanes with the associated set of stator vanes. As shown, there are four sets of stator vanes a, b, c, d, each set being divided into two groups E, F, the members of each group being connected together and the groups of each set being connected by a corresponding inductance such as Ha, Hb, Hd. By rotating the stator assembly, any selected set of stator plates, such as d, can be brought into capacitative relation with two sets of fixed vanes H, L so as to determine which inductance (in this case Hd) is capacitatively coupled between the anode and grid of a valve V. Two pairs of rotor vanes I, J, connected together by a spindle G have a variable capacitative connection with the selected set of stator plates d. Thus, wave range switching is done by rotating the stator plates into one of its four positions, and tuning within the range is done by turning spindle G.
