Abstract

562,897. Milling-cutters. MILLING- TON, H. E. Jan. 16, 1943, No. 853. [Class 83 (iii)] A milling-cutter or like tool has flat-faced blades B tapered in two directions at right angles to engage similarly shaped slots in a body A so as to be forced against a side wall A<1> of the slot. The blades diverge axially towards the inner end of the body and may diverge or converge radially towards the axis, the former being adapted to resist cutting forces acting radially outwards or axially and the latter resisting radially inward cutting forces. The main cutting edge B<1> extends from the thickest corner B<5> of each blade to the intermediate corner B<6> and the subsidiary cutting edge B<2> extends from this corner to the thinnest corner B<7>. A clearance is provided at the innermost edge A<2> of the slot or the slot may extend into the central aperture of the body. The inner edges B3, B<4> of the blades may be rounded and the blades may be of triangular instead of quadrilateral shape.
