Abstract
562,056. Photographic printing apparatus. ALFORD, J. Sept. 3, 1942, No. 12485. [Class 98 (i)] A masking device for photographic use, of the kind comprising two pairs of superimposed masking shutters, all of which are independently adjustable and those of one pair in a direction perpendicular to that of the other pair, comprises also a rotatable disc for carrying the negative or the like. In the form shown, a carrier disc 2, shown separately in Fig. 3, is rotatably mounted between upper and lower frame members 1, 3 and is operable by a protruding marginal portion. Slidably mounted in the upper and lower frame members respectively are pairs of masking shutters 4, 5 and 4<1>, 51 which are independently movable by operating spindles 17, 18, 19, 20. The spindle 17 is threaded into a slidably mounted block 11 which moves the shutter 4 through a pivoted arm 7 having pin-and-slot connections to it and the block. Coarse and fine adjustments are made respectively by longitudinal and rotational movement of the spindle. The other shutters are operated similarly. In the construction shown, the negative is inserted into an aperture in a disc 31 eccentrically and rotatably carried in the disc 2. The disc 31 is also formed with housings for a title negative, focusing aids 32, 32<1>, cut-out masks 34, 35 for producing black borders and an adjustable mask for rectangular black borders of variable proportions, this last consisting of two overlapping members 36, 37, the latter of which is adjustable. All these can be brought into operative position by rotating the disc 31 in the disc 2. After rotating the disc 31 to bring a slot 12 in it into alignment with a slot 12<11> in the disc 2, a strip film carried on supports 44<1> may be passed through the aligned slots for printing. The device may be supported in a horizontal position with a lamp housing located on its upper surface and a camera below it, a bellows being secured to the lower side of the device and having a socket at its lower end which drops round the lens of the camera, which is vertically adjustable. In a modified form, the operating spindles coact with screwed lugs on the shutters, and the carrier disc is rotated by means of a pinion engaging a circular rack on it and mounted on an operating spindle.
