Abstract

561,769. Pile fabrics. O'DELL, A. E. (Collins & Aikman Corporation). Aug. 8, 1942, No. 11115. [Class 142 (iv)] In making pile fabrics wherein the pile loops or cut tufts are secured to the ground or backing by W interlacing a number of successive loops are formed free of interlacing with the ground and these loops are supported by wefts in planes spaced from one another in a direction normal to the ground. Two fabrics are formed face to face and a pile warp yarn 30, 31 secured to a ground by three successive wefts 1, 3, 1a, or 1<1>, 2<1> 1a<1> is formed into loops and supported by wefts 2a, 3a<1> or 3a<1>, 4a, and is thereafter secured in the other ground by three successive wefts. A knife 28 is provided for cutting the warps interconnecting the grounds. Uncut pile loops are provided at desired positions in the fabrics by forming a loop and supporting the looped warp over one weft 2a or 3e<1> and thereafter returning and securing the warp to the same ground. The spaced wefts 2a, 3a<1> are separated by gauges 21 which pass through the reed dents and have their free ends terminating within the woven fabric. U.S.A. Specifications 2,108,046 and 2,108,288 are referred to.
