Abstract
1,143,324. Looms. J. L. CARD and W. E. PASSONS. 20 March, 1967 [19 March, 1966], No. 13051/67. Heading DIE. A fringe of cut or uncut loops 161, Fig. 10, of weft 39 is formed on a narrow strip of fabric having warp yarns 111, 112. The fabric is woven with the warp yarns horizontal in a vertical plane, alternate yarns passing through eyes 105, 106, Fig. 6, in rods 75, 76 respectively which are oppositely reciprocated by crank mechanism to shed the warp. The weft is inserted by a needle 33 which is reciprocated vertically in timed relation by a crank mechanism with the shredding mechanism, the fringe loop being retained by a looper 155 suitably actuated as the needle is withdrawn. A cutter is associated with the looper if a cut fringe is desired. Two or more strips may be woven on the same machine by providing additional warps co-operating with further sets of eyes on the rods 75, 76 and further weft needles. The crank mechanism for shedding may be replaced by hydraulic mechanism and a pneumatic hollow needle may be used for inserting the weft and blowing out a measured fringe loop. In this latter case the looper can be dispensed with.
