Abstract

561,739. Composite structural metal bars. MILLS SCAFFOLD CO., Ltd., and WELLS, G. W. Aug. 18, 1942, No. 11572. [Class 20 (ii)] Composite structural members formed from pressed sheet metal sections, have the abutting faces of the sections dished at or between the positions where gusset plates for joining the structural members to each other, are to be received, so that when the sections are assembled, recesses are formed for receiving the ends of the gusset plates. Fig. 1 shows pressed sheet metal angle sections 7, the flanges 7a of which are dished at 8 so that when the sections are assembled to form a T-member, recesses 8 are formed to receive the ends of gusset plates 9, the remainder of the flanges 7a abutting against each other. In Fig. 5, where the gusset plates 9 extend level with the flanges of channel sections 7, the parts of the webs of the sections 8 between the positions of the gusset plates are dished so that when assembled, these parts abut leaving recesses for the reception of the gusset plates 9.
