Abstract

561,681. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems ; valves. ARMANDIAS, L. S., and ASSOCIATED MESSIER INVESTMENTS, Ltd. Nov. 25; 1942, No. 16748. [Class 135] A control valve device for controlling the clutch in the drive of a hydraulic pump comprises a pair of lift valve members actuated by oppositely extending piston rods on a piston subject to the controlling pressure. In the hydraulic circuit shown in Fig. 1, a pump 1 draws liquid from a reservoir 4 and delivers it to a pressure-loaded accumulator 7 with a service outlet 11. The pump 1 is driven through a clutch held in engagement by a spring device 3 and released by admitting pressure fluid to a power device 2 under the control of a valve device 18. This device comprises a cylinder 36 closed at each end by covers 43, 44, held in place by screwed plugs 39, 40 and housing a piston 41 provided with piston rods 50, 51 passing through stuffing boxes 48, 49 in the covers into valve chambers in the plugs. One side of the piston is subject to the pressure in the accumulator 7, while the other side is subject to the pressure in an auxiliary loading accumulator 22. Each valve chamber has an inlet and outlet connection and houses a spring-loaded lift valve formed on the end of a ported tubular member. When the pressure in the accumulator 7 rises above that in the loading accumulator 22, the piston moves to left to open valve 56 to connect pipes 16 and 33 and admit pressure to the clutch releasing power device. In a modified arrangement, the clutch is released by spring and is moved into engagement by fluid pressure.
