Abstract

561,206. Gypsum. HIMSWORTH, F.R., LEFEBURE, V., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 13, 1942, No. 9701. [Class 1 (iii)] Gypsum in a form suitable for conversion to plaster of Paris is produced by hydrating ground anhydrite with sufficient water to prevent setting and in the presence of seed gypsum crystals of dimensions not less than 100Á by 20Á by 20Á. Suitable crystals are those obtained in the production of phosphoric acid by treatment of phosphate rock with sulphuric acid, or from a previous hydration operation. The hydration process may be carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising potassium and aluminium sulphates as described in Specification 561,205.
