Abstract
561,165. Bearings ; plastic compositions. PICK, O. Dec. 24, 1942, No. 18304. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group V] The bearing surface of one of the relatively sliding parts of a bearing consists of both plastic material and a good heat - conducting material. The bearing may be moulded from plastic powder, e.g. material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite," mixed with metal powder, e.g. bronze powder. By centrifuging in the mould, the proportion of metal powder may increase with the distance from the bearing surface. Strips, buttons or pellets 3, Fig. 2, of plastic containing metal powder may be arranged in a metal surround 4, and they may also contain amorphous graphite. The bearing may consist of alternate rings, Fig. 3, of thick plastic 5 and thin metal 6, the metal not being harder than the plastic, and the rings may be moulded together or secured by screws or bolts. In an alternative, metal pins or rods 7, Fig. 4, are provided radially in a plastic body 8. The plastic and metal bearing may form the surface of a shaft or its housing.
