Abstract
560,900. Electric radiators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., FRASER, J. A., and HUMM, R. W. July 17, 1942, No. 9974. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric radiator employs U-shaped, low temperature heating elements 5 of the type in which a metal sheath encloses a heating wire embedded in refractory insulation or wound on an insulator and spaced by air from the sheath. The ends 5a of the elements pass through the frame 2 to sub-terminals 6. U-shaped rails 7 are spanned by notched plates 8 which support the elements 5, and removable front bars 9 are provided so that the elements may be detached for replacement. The elements may alternatively be arranged vertically, or several bars combined to form a sinuous resistance, Fig. 4 (not shown). A polished sheet metal reflector 10a behind the elements may be illuminated by a red lamp 11. A transparent panel 1 of heatresisting glass may be arranged, as described in Specification 560,921 behind the elements, or the panel may be a reflector. Apertures 2b may be provided in the frame 2a to allow air to pass to the back of the panel. Convection of air may be assisted by vertical apertures in the guard rails. The number of elements in circuit is controlled by switches 13, and thermostatic control may also be provided.
