Abstract
560,871. Electromagnetic switches. HINKS, B. Oct. 20, 1942, No. 14654. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic switch designed to prevent bounce of contacts, the core consists of two parts 12, 15 initially separated and energization of the magnet first causes upward movement of the part 12 till the moving contact 11 engages one or more spring - biassed " fixed " contacts 4a ; the core 12 then continues upwards until it strikes and carries along with it the core 15 till the increased tension of the springs 7 brings the switch to rest. Thus the springs 7 cushion the blow of the contacts and of the two parts of the core against each other. In the form shown the socket portion 5 of each " fixed " contact is squeezed round a rib or pin 3 on the frame and grooves in the pin retain waxed graphite or other lubricant. The joint gives a frictional resistance to movement.
