Abstract
Bis-ureas, useful as respiratory stimulants, of the formula X-CO-NR-A-NR-CO-Y, where X and Y are radicals of dialkylamines or heterocyclic secondary amines of molecular weight not exceeding 120, the R's are alkoxyalkyl groups which jointly contain not more than 12 carbon atoms and A is an alkylene chain of 2 to 6 carbon atoms which may bear one or more alkyl, alkoxy or alkoxyalkyl substituents or two such chains united by -O-, -S-, -NH-, or -N.Alkyl-, are prepared by causing a monourea X-CO-NR-A-NHR to react with a carbamyl chloride Y-CO-Cl, or to react with phosgene to form the carbamyl chloride X-CO-NR-A-NR-CO-Cl which is then combined with an amine YH. The monoureas are prepared by combining one molecule of a diamine RNH-A-NHR with one molecule of a carbamyl chloride X-CO-Cl. In an example NN1-di-(b -ethoxyethyl) - ethylenediamine - N - carboxylic piperidide-N1-carboxylic dimethyl amide is prepared from dimethylcarbamyl chloride and NN1 - di - (b - ethoxyethyl) - ethylenediamine - N-carboxylic piperidide which is itself made along with a little NN1-di-(b -ethoxyethyl)-ethylenediamine - NN1 - dicarboxylic bis - piperidide from piperidine-N-carboxylic chloride and NN1 - di - (b - ethoxyethyl) - ethylenediamine.
