Abstract

559,293. Hoeing-machines. WARD, F., and WARD, W. July 29, 1942, No. 63/44. Divided out of 559,267. [Class 6 (i)] Hoes are mounted in pairs on a transverse shaft 20. All pairs may be lifted in unison, and the pairs may rise and fall individually. Each L-shaped blade 31 is adjustably mounted on a rockable arm 27, 28 which are secured in pairs to plates 25 projecting from sleeves 22 on the shaft 20. Rows of holes 26 are provided in the plates 25 to allow the arms of each pair to be adjusted laterally relative to each other. The arms of each pair are further secured to each other by braces 29, and to one of these is hinged a vertical rod 41 slidable against the action of a spring 43 in its pivot in the arm 39. The arms of the several pairs are secured to a transverse shaft 37 rotatable by a lever 48, the other end of which is adjacent to the driver's seat. The lever 48 has alternative fulcra whereby both raising and lowering of all the hoes is effected by lowering of the levers 48. This, together with the frame construction and steering arrangements, is described in Specification 559,267.
