Abstract
558,913. Dressing fish. SMITH, M., and FRIEDRICH, C. H. April 24, 1942, No. 5500. [Class 28 (ii)] In a filleting machine shown in elevation in Fig. 1 and in plan in Fig. 2, a previously decapitated fish is supported belly upwards in a spring mounted trough 47, and a pointed member 44 protrudes into the body so that grips of conveyer chains 64, 64a engage the backbone and draw the fish into the machine with the belly walls opened flat. Disc knives 70, 70a separate the flesh from the tail bone up to the height of the backbone and further disc knives 33, 34 separate the flesh from the belly bones up to the back bone. The loosened flesh parts slide, with the skin downwards, on to the surface of a perforated drum 4 subject interiorly to a vacuum produced by a pump 12, and the flesh is separated from the skin by a knife 21 oscillated along the drum. The skin adhering to the drum is removed by a scraper 49.
