Abstract
590,729. Fish dressing machine. FRIEDRICH, C.H., and COX, J. June 14, 1944, No. 11338. [Class 28 (ii)] A machine for beheading and gutting fish comprises a gripper 1 which swings the fish round so that the back of its neck strikes an edged plate whereby the head and attached gut becomes severed from the body. Rotating. disc knives 5 first sever the strip connecting the head to the belly.. The fish is either placed in the gripper by hand or by unspecified automatic feed. The gripper carries cutter plates 20, which close on the back of the neck to sever part of the flesh but not the bone nor the gut. When the neck strikes the plate 4, the head grips itself thereon so that further rotation of the grippers assisted by the backward oscillation of the plate 4, pulls the fish away from the head and its attached guts which are left on the plate 4. The cleaned fish body is then released into a shoot 3 and slides into a trough 27 where a bone-extracting wheel 6 breaks the tail fin, engages the back bone and pulls it along one side of a fixed plate 15 to detach it while the now boned body slides along the other side and then drops away. A fan clears the boning wheel of the back-bones.
