Abstract

257,567. Barry, J. J. Aua. 29, 1925, [Convention date]. Fish, dressing.-A machine for skinning fishes or parts of fishes comprises a conveyer, having one or more automatically operated devices for gripping fishes delivered thereto, which carry the fishes past skinning means to a discharge position where the gripping-devices are actuated to release the fishes. As shown in Figs. 2, 3, the conveyer is a circular drum 1 which rotates between a feeding-table 9 and a receiver 10 for the skins. The drum is transversely slotted at 11 and inwardly projecting fluted flanges 12 cooperate with pivoted members comprising arms 14 and cross-members 13 to grip the fishes. The arms 14 engage cams 16 and thereby grip and release the fishes at appropriate times. The skinning knife 18 is reciprocated by mechanism 22, 23, 24 and is secured at its ends to members 19, 20 slidable in bearings 21. The knife is tensioned by a bridge 25 adjusted by a turnbuckle 26 and it cuts between the skin and the flesh of the fish. A sprinkler 27 washes the fishes and lubricates the knife. The skinned fishes slide backwards and sideways over the drum into a receptacle adjacent to the table 9.
