Abstract

230,381. Baader, R. Sept. 30, 1924. Fish, treating. - In a machine for heading and eviscerating fish, the head, partially severed by a cut through the backbone, is torn from the body by claws 17 on a belt pulley 16, the entrails, connected with the head, being engaged between the belt 15 and the groove of the pulley 16 and wound out of the fish. The fishes are placed individually, backs downwards, in compartments formed by interfitting Z. sectioned members 9, 9<a> riveted to an endless belt 8 provided with tensioning-means. In passing around the roller 2 the fishes are cut by a disc knife 11 and the flanges b. b<1> of the members 9, 9<a> become tangential to the curved belt whereby the fishes are squeezed, as shown in Fig. 4, loosening the entrails in the belly cavity. The knife shaft carries a pulley 12 engaged by the belt 15 which co-operates with the jockey pulley 16 carrying claws 17 which engage the head, bend it back on the belly flaps and tear it from the body. The speed of the jockey pulley 16 is greater than that of the conveyer 8 so that the head is removed before the fish passes the belt 15 which, with the pulley 16, engages and removes the entrails as stated above. On reaching the lower run of the conveyer 8 the members 9, 9<a> open and drop the fishes on to a discharge shoot. An abutment 18 at one side of the conveyer 8, positions the fishes; a table being provided at the other side. The knife and belts may be flushed with water.
