558,899. Coated fabrics. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. July 22, 1942, No. 10258. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1941. [Class 140] Fabrics which are to be rendered weatherproof and taut by application of cellulose derivative solutions, for use in forming or covering aeroplane parts, are woven from continuous filament yarns of regenerated cellulose and are treated, before coating, with a plasticizer for the cellulose derivative. The yarns may be obtained by the wet spinning of viscose solutions or by saponification of dry-spun, stretched yarns having a basis of an organic derivative of cellulose. The plasticizer may be di-(methoxyethyl) phthalate, dimethyl or diethyl phthalate, ethyl phthalyl ethyl glycollate, triethylene glycol, triacetin, tripropionin, monoethyl-p-toluene suphonamide, triphenyl or tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl tartrate or phthalate or camphor. The plasticizer may be incorporated in the solution from which the yarns are spun, or may be applied alone or as a solution in a volatile solvent to the yarn or the fabric. The treated fabric is coated with solution of cellulose esters or ethers such as cellulose acetate, propionate, butyrate, acetate-propionate or acetate-butyrate, cellulose nitrate or ethyl or benzyl cellulose to which may be added plasticizers. natural or synthetic resins or non- solvents for the celllulose derivatives.
