Abstract
558,536. Cupping ; making hollow-ware. CARR, R. D., GIBLIN, A. A., and DALE, Ltd., J. Nov. 5, 1942, No. 15606. Addition to 550,148. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Hollow articles which may be closed at one end are cupped in one or more stages from a block of tin, tin coated lead, lead, aluminium or zinc &c. coated on one or both sides with an alloy that melts at a temperature below the melting temperature of the metal of the blank. The alloy preferably consists of bismuth, tin and lead. A small proportion of cadmium may be added, as described in the parent Specification. The blanks are cut from a sheet of metal to which the alloy has been applied on one or both sides by rolling as described in the parent Specification. An article 1 to be fitted into a recess 5 and secured by soldering is provided at one end with an external flange 2 and is secured by heating the flange or appropriate part or parts.
