Abstract
557,987. Artificial wood bituminous compositions. GOODWIN, H. June 11, 1942, No. 7975. [Class 70] Artificial wood compositions, e.g. for paving blocks, tiles, panelling or miscellaneous articles, comprise fluxed or unfluxed bitumens which may be asphaltic, residuum, blown, or coal tar pitch, together with sawdust and an inorganic filler, e.g. powdered limestone, slate dust or silica, e.g. in percentages 30, 40, 30 respectively. The sawdust and filler may be mixed, added slowly to the melted bitumen with constant stirring, and the mixture moulded under pressure which may be sufficient to crush the fibres and/or prevent subsequent distortion due to " cold flow." Pigments, and carborundum may also be incorporated.
