Abstract

557,826. Spray carburetters. CLEVELAND, F. J. (Bendix Aviation Corporation). July 6, 1942, No. 9366. [Class 7 (iii)] Fuel delivered by a nozzle 20 is discharged into a central chamber 34 attached to the end of the shaft 12 of the supercharger impeller 14, and provided with a circumferential series of blades 32, and escapes radially through the blades to orifices 24, 26, 28, 30 in stepped surfaces formed in the periphery of the chamber, so as to become intimately mixed with the air drawn in from an inlet 18. Waste fuel escapes at 36, 38. In modifications, fuel passages are also provided in the impeller 14, extending radially outward therefrom. Fig. 6 shows another form for use where the shaft 412 extends beyond the impeller 414, the fuel being supplied at 460, 462, 466 to a chamber 434 leading to a passage 442 and orifices 454,456, 458.
