[Class 96] To change the wire-cloth 16 of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine a carriage C comprising longitudinal beams and transverse beams 20 is moved out from under the machine into the aisle, pivoted tracks 21 are swung horizontally aside, the lower run of the wire 16 inserted in recesses in the beams 20, the upper run draped over poles 62 and the carriage returned. The poles 62 are removed and the tracks 21 again swung aside to allow the wire to be placed in the operative position. The suction pipes &c. and driving arrangements are on the side of the machine permanently supported by pedestals 17, the other side preferably being permanently supported on the carriage C by rollers 23 which roll on the tracks 21 when the carriage is run out. The poles 62 are supported at one end at 61, 63 and at the other by feet 64 which slide over the table rolls or suction boxes. Pairs of brackets support wire-carrying poles at the breast roll and couch roll ends of the carriage C, the breast roll being moved under the table during wire-changing, and the couch roll having a temporary cantilever support. A cat-walk 66 is provided. The invention is applicable to Fourdrinier machines of variable pitch, e.g. wherin the main frame is pivoted at the breast roll end, and the couch roll end raised by jacks.
