Application filed June 19, 1822. Serial No. 569,216. 1
To all whom it ma concern: 7
Be it known t at I, WILLIAM EDWIN KNowLns- TRUIMAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, andga resident of Wood Green, county of Middlesex, En land, have invented a certain new and use 111 Improvement in Mountings for the Dandy Rolls of Pa er-Making and like Machinery, of which t e following is a specification.
The present invention which relates to machinery for the manufacture of paper or other commodity, has for-its object the provision of a new or improved mounting which will enable the dandy rolls thereof to be safely and readily positioned across the machine without the liability of said rolls and/or the travelling band or machine wire.
therebelow being accidentally damaged, as ofttimes at present obtains.
In order that the invention me be readily understood reference is to be ad to the following description and accompanying sheets of drawin s, wherein Figure 1 is a ront view of the mounting constructed in accordance with the -inven tion. a
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken on line w, a: of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary front view illustrative of the application of a supplemental track.
In the several figures, like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, the mounting consists of an horizontally disposed track, constituted by two suitably spaced apart rails a, a respectively, arranged transversely across the machine and at right angles to the travelling band or machlne wire thereof, said band or machine wire not being shown on the drawings.
The track. a, a. is carried by two oppositely disposed brackets 12, b respectively, said brackets b, 6' being adjustably mounted in a vertical direction in two standards 0 located one on each side of the machine as shown in Figures 1 and 2, and on said track a, a'- are mounted two trolleys d, each of which carries a downwardly extending swivelling hook or bearing a for the reception therein of the ends of journals 7 of the shaft 9 of the dandy roll it.
In use, the trolleys d are both pushed to one endof the track-a, a and one end f of the dandy roll shaft 9 is engaged in the sw velling hook or bearing e of the trolley of nearest the travellin band.
The roll h, and withit the trolley, is then pushed along the track a, a until the'other end f of the shaftg can be engaged in the swivelling hook or bearing e of the other trolley-d, whereupon the roll h and both trolleys d can be shifted along the track a, a to any desired position thereon.
To correctly positlon the roll h, one, or it may be both, end of the front rail a of the track is graduated as at a Figure 1, and a pointer a or equivalent device is carried by the trolley to read with such graduation; and, further, the carriage d of each swivelling hook or bearing e is adjustable transversely in its trolley by screw means d, so that said roll can be positioned centrally between the rails of the track.
To adjust the roll vertically, the brackets b, b carrying the track a, a are each carried by a vertically disposed screw 6, Figure 3, mounted in the standards a, the upper ends of said screws 6 carrying a gear wheel 6 engaging a gear wheel 7' on an horizontally disposed shaft j* extending from and car- 'ried by the standards 0, one or both ends of said shaft j being provided with a hand wheel 9' or the like for rotating said shaft and effecting the simultaneous raising or owering of both ends of the dandy roll shaft g, means, such as set screws (i being provided to lock the trolleys d to the front rail a'of the track when said roll is in its adjusted position between the sides of the machine.
Further, to allow of the dandy roll it being traversed beyond the sides of the machine, use is made of supplemental lengths of track, a supplemental length of track a, Figure 4, being, when required, coupled and secured to the ends of the main track a, a in any suitable manner, thus extending the length of said main track.
I claim 1. A mounting for the dandy rolls of paper-making and like machines, characterized b an horizontally disposed track an range transversely across the machine and at right angles to the travelling band or machine wire, a pair of trolleys mounted on said track, and a downwardly extending swivelling bearing carried by each trolley for the reception therein of the journal ends of the dandy roll shaft.
2. A mounting as claimed by claim 1, characterized in that the track is constituted by two suitably spaced apart rails and that said track is carried b brackets adjustably mounted in a vertical irection in standards located one on each side of the machine.
3. A mounting as claimed by claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the track-carrying brackets are each carried by a vertically disposed screw mounted in the standards, and that the u per ends of said screws carry a ar whee engagin a gear wheel on an orizontallydispose shaft extending from standard to standard and by the provision of a hand wheel or the like on said shaft for effecting the rotation thereof and the simultaneous raising and lowering of both ends of the dandy roll shaft 4. A mounting as claimed by claims 1, 2 and 3, characterized in that the carriage of each swivelling bearing is slidably mounted meaaeo in its trolley and is adjustable by screw means to position the dandy roll centrally between the rails of the track, means being provided to lock the trolleys to the track when said dandy roll is in its adjusted position.
5. A machine as claimed by claims 1 to 3, characterized by the provision of two supplemental tracks adagted, when required, to be detachably couple and secured in any suitable manner to the ends of the main track to increase the length thereof for the purpose set forth.
6. A mounting of the kind set forth, characterized in that the front rail of the track is graduated and that the trolley carries a pointer or equivalent device to read with said graduation.
In testimony whereof 1 have afixed my signature hereto this 2nd day of June, 1922.
WILHAM EDWHN KNOWLES 'E'RGWAN.
