Abstract

265,248. Marks, E. C. R., (Beloit Iron Works). Aug. 5, 1925. Fourdrinier paper machines; shaking apparatus for wire cloths; tilting mechanism for wire cloths; stuff chests.- To facilitate the changing of the wire of paper machines, particularly of the Fourdrinier type wherein the deckle mechanism must be raised and the wire lifted clear of the table to allow the latter to be withdrawn, the breast roll 90, Fig. 15, is mounted on an extensible support 91 and may be moved inwards to slacken the wire by a rack and pinion 93, 94, or it may be mounted in easily opened bearings on a separate support and run inwards on to brackets 228, Fig. 29, along movable racks 236 put into position for this purpose and then removed. The deckle mechanism is lifted in anv desired manner. The wire is then hung around light aluminium poles clear of the table. The part of the table carrying the tuba rolls 107, Fig. 24, is mounted on flexible elements 109 and shaken by an arm 111 on a rock shaft 112 and connection boxes 115 are specially constructed for easy dissembling. The rock shaft 112 may be mounted in ordinary bearings or at longitudinally spaced points in flexibde slab-like supporting elements 121, 122 of hard wood such as hickory. The table to be withdrawn is provided with rollers running on transverse tracks and driven from a motor carried by the non-shakable portion of the table. The tracks 311, Fig. 47, may be hinged at 326 to sub-frame beams 327 so that they may be swung into position for the changing of the wire, an extension 322 similarly mounted on the floor of the mill or on the wall 325 being placed in position to receive the table when withdrawn from the wire. Locking, supporting, and adjusting means are provided for securing the tracks, the table, the breast roll, &c. in both positions. The guide rolls 264, Fig. 40, for the wire under the table are mounted on arms 264<a> permitting the rolls to be swung clear of the path of the table &c. during withdrawal. Means are provided for adjusting the slope of the paper machine. The feed box 71, Fig. 15, is hung on yokes 73 and the feed end of the table section 1 is hung on yokes 74. Both are lifted by a motor 65 acting through plungers 73<a>, 74<a> and gearing. By means of adjustable guide-ways 83, 84 and slide pins 85, 86 on side frames of the feed-box, the feed-box is tilted about the feed end of the table to ensure a proper feed of pulp,
