XF'OURDRINIERl PAPER MACHINE v i Filed July 5, 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 www Y Patented Jan. .2 7, 1931 v UNITED STATES ALONZO ALDRICH, 01:"l BELOIT, WISCONSIN FOURDRINIER PAPER MACHINE i Application led July 5, 1923. Serial No. 649,455.
My invention relates to Fourdrinicr paper making machines, and particularly, though not necessarily, to such as have a table made laterally removable to facilitate application of a new wire.
One of the objects of the invention is to arrange for the advantageous mounting of the removable table and its breast roll relatively to the devices for holding and feeding the 1o paper pulp.
Another object of the invention is to arrange for the vertical adjustment of both the table with its breast roll and the paper material holding and feeding devices.
Another object of the invention is to secure easy aid pro-per cooperation between all these parts.
Another object of the invent-ion is to permit ready removal of the table and prevent interference therewith eventhough the latter is mounted for cooperative adjustment of paper holding and feeding devices.
vOtherobjects will appear and be pointed out hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 is a side elevation ofthe feed end of a Fourdrinicrniachine and paper material holds ing and fceding'devices embodying my present invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross section on line 2-2 in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3'is an endVv elevation of the structure shown 'in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, I show the end of atable 1 lhaving rolls 2 and a breast roll 3 and wire 3a thereon. The table is mounted for lateral removal for placing a new wire, andis accordingly shown with mechanism therefor. This comprises wheels 4 mounted on power shaft 5 and arranged to travel on tracks 6 mounted on pedestals 6a on floor or foundation. But as this mechanism of itself forms no part of my present invention, being disclosed .and claimed in Patent No. 1,421,752, issued July 4, 1922, to myself and A. L. Larson, it is not shown in full and will not be described further. The breast roll 3 is preferabl mounted for adjustment longitudinally o the table, as by mounting it on slides 7 adjusted byhandle 8 through suit-i able gearing 9, 10 and 11, and rack 12. This adjusting machanism of itself forms no part of my present invention', being shown, described and claimed in my Patent N o. 1,494,567, issued May 20, 1924.
A feed box 13 -and tank 14 for holding paper material and feeding same to wire 3a near or above breast roll 3 is provided.. These are mounted on a supporting structure conveniently comprising side upright members 15-15 adapted to rest on floor or foundation 16 and cross connecting beams 17, 18 and 19 secured to said members 15 and cross member 20 between members 18 and 19'. vThis frame or supporting structure fits between 05 posts 21-21 on floor Aor foundation 16,and is adapted to pivot on same about its forward end, for purposes to be explained later.
Arrangement is made for supporting table end by feed box supporting structure and also connecting same together so that relation between same may bedeterminedand maintained, and also so that they may be adjusted together. As a simple and practical arrange-v4 ment, the ends of the breast roll slides 7 are l75 mounted on shoulders or abutmeuts 23 on members 15, and screw bolts 24 with capstan nuts 25 are provided for detachably connecting or securing slides 7 to members 15, bolts 24 being preferably pivoted by pins 26 to so permit adjustment and movement outv of way. Thus feed end of table withits breast roll and paper material holding and feeding devices are detachably secured or. heldtogether so y as to maintain pro er relationship and also to permit joint 'adjustment of same. Also, table may be readily disconnected to permit its removal for `applying new wire.
Arrangement is 'also made for the vertical adjustment of the paper material holding and 90 feeding devices and table end combined, so as to obtain inclination of wire for effect in arranging fibers on Wire. While various lifting mechanisms could be used, as an advant'.geous. arrangement and matter .of .fur- 95 ther and specific im rovement, I'show a floating ladjusting mec anism for raising and .lowering the rear end of paper materialV de-l vices supporting structure.' The mechanism shown comprisesl floating frames 27 provldejd 100 with pointed bearings 28 resting on V-shaped .supporters 29 on foundation 16. Frames 27 carry adjusting screws 30, arranged for vercaps 32 having pointed ends fitting into recesses in abutments in projections 34 on meinbers 15. Adjusting screws are raised and lowered by suitable power mechanism, as electric motor 36 geared to cross shaft 37 having worm and gear connections with screws 30, the worms on screws 30 having threaded sockets for screws 3() so that rotation of the worms will raise and lower the screws. Thus operation of -motor 36 will cause rotation of adjusting worms on screws 30 and thereby cause raising and lowering of frame members 15 andV with them the paper holdingand feeding devices and feed end of table, and proper relationship of table and paper holding and feeding devices will be maintained constantly, irrespective of position in adjustment of same,
It will be understood that changes and modifications may be made without departin from the spirit of the invention.
