Abstract

556,316. Shoe-bottom pressing apparatus. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). March 27,1942, No. 4044. Addition to 525,567. [Class 17 (i)] The apparatus described in the parent Specification is modified by the provision of separate adjustment for the two width-wise fulcra, and the provision of adjustable lengthwise fulcra. A pad comprising a layer 66 of leather above a layer 68 of rubber is clipped to fore-part and shank and heel supports 74 of metal in pad-holding members 60, 62. These rest on rolls 110, 112 in tipping blocks 86, 88 pivoted respectively at 90 and 92 and adjustable angularly about these pivots, clamping nuts 102, 104 holding them in adjusted position. The blocks rest on rocking members 48, 50 resting on rolls 32, 34 independently adjustable longitudinally of the shoe by screws 40, 42. The rocking members have side walls with laterally extending segmental lugs 52, 54 extending into vertical guide ways 56 formed in the opposite side walls of a frame 10. Normally, the lugs 52, 54 provide a single floating horizontal axis, but the two pairs of lugs are capable of slight relative heightwise movement. Leaf springs provide friction to hold the parts in the positions into which they have been rocked by the last shoe operated on.
