Abstract
556,294. Wind or rain screens. LEE, R. W. Nov. 23, 1942, Nos. 16523 and 17351. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] A wind or rain screen comprises one or more transparent members mounted on a pair of goggles and provided with vanes, fins, or the like, so that they are rotated by the wind; the members may be discs or cones. As shown in Fig. 5, a transparent disc 1 having wind vanes 2 is carried by an axle 23 within a ball race 24 mounted in a hub 21, and the hub is attachable to the front of motoring goggles, Fig. 4, moulded in one piece of transparent material. The hub is formed with a shoulder 26 adapted to engage a groove 18 in a recess 17 formed to receive the hub, and a projection 28 on a spring 27 engages a notch 19 to retain the hub in the recess. The goggles comprise a front 14, a side portion 15 having vents 20, and a flange 16 to which sponge rubber, or felt, may be attached. A modification is described in which the disc is rotatable in front of an open-ended transparent frame shaped to fit the face of the wearer. In other modifications the single disc may be replaceod by a cone, or by two discs one in front of each eye, mounted on ball bearings in peripheral grooves.
