556,281. Moulding rubber soles and heels on to rubber boots. BROWN, J. C., and BROWN, A. H. March 25, 1942, No. 3930. [Class 87 (ii)] A hot base-plate 1 has cavities 3 in which are disposed sole moulds, each comprising a pattern plate 17 and side plates 18, 19, and heel moulds, each comprising a pattern plate 24, side plates 25, 26, and a distance-piece 27 which helps to hold the boot clear of the base-plate. A screw 28 presses a bar 29 against the heel mould parts to keep them in position. Separate pressing devices are provided for the sole and the heel, the devices comprising square-headed screws 14, 15 passing through holes in two parallel bars 12, located above the base-plate. Pressure on the sole is applied via block 23, plate 22, block 21 and sand 21a. Pressure on the heel is applied via blocks 23a, 30. To obtain a tight fit between the base-plate and the moulds, the former may be made of cast iron and the latter of aluminium alloy, the aluminium alloy expanding more quickly, on heating, than the cast iron.
