Abstract
556,207. Collimators. LINK AVIATION DEVICES, Inc. April 30, 1942, No. 9690/43. Convention date, May 15, 1941. Divided out of 556,180. [Class 97 (i)] A collimator 22 is supported by trunnions 28, 79 in anti-friction bearings 36 on brackets 18, 20 rising from a base plate 10 having levelling screws 12, and its axial tilt may be adjusted by a clamping and slow-motion device associated with the bracket 20 and indicated by a circular scale 64 and a vernier 72 associated with the bracket 18 ; its construction may be as described in Specification 556,180, and it may be used for testing the readings of sextants. As shown, the brackets locate the trunnion axis over one end of the base 10, and the bearing on the bracket 18 is housed in a sleeve 38 formed therewith, and with a circular apertured plate 60 having a cylindrical flange 62 enclosing the scale 64. A vernier scale 72 is mounted in an aperture 70 in the bracket and a diametrically-opposite reading mark 78 on the plate 77 is mounted in a notch 76 ; the scale 64 is carried by the trunnion 28. The trunnion 79 has an enlargement 80 surrounded by a split ring 86 formed with an arm 96 extending between abutment rods 100, 116, in a member 106 secured to the bracket 20. One rod is screw-threaded for adjustment by hand and the other is spring- pressed towards the arm 96. Lugs 9U each side of the split in the ring 86 are connected by a clamping screw 92 permitting the ring to be freed from the trunnion. Specification 556,180 is referred to.
