Abstract
548,513. Theodolites and the like. COOKE, TROUGHTON & SIMMS, Ltd., and TAYLOR E. W. Aug. 25, 1941, No. 10828. [Class 97 (ii)] To facilitate stowage of a theodolite &c. in its case the micrometer eyepiece is arranged and mounted on the uprights so as to bring its axis parallel with the vertical axis of the theodolite when required for stowage. As shown the plate 1 attached to the upright 2 is provided with a boss the faces of which are machined at a suitable angle say 15 degrees. The centre line of the short arm 3 of an elbow carrying the eye-piece 8 is mounted so as to be perpendicular to the inclined face while the long arm 4 makes an angle of say 105 degrees with the short-arm. The eyepiece elbow is rotatably retained on its seating by semi-annular plates 5 and the reverse side of the boss forms a seating for the adjustable mount 6 carrying the reading scale graticule 7. A stop plate 10 permits some 70 degrees rotation each side of the vertical centre line. The eye-piece is locked in its vertical stowage position by a stirrup 12 which can be swung downward and located between two studs 13. A detent 14 is provided to maintain the stirrup either in its locked or unlocked position. Specification 541,948 is referred to.
