Abstract

[Class 4] In a self-aligning and anti-shimmying device for anti-aircraft tail wheel or like support comprising a cam device which acts to lift the support weight of the aircraft when the wheel moves from the mid position and thus to provide a restoring force the device comprises a pair of cams in frictional engagement, interposed between the oleo leg or other shock absorber and the wheel. The device shown comprises tubular members 8, 9 having contacting cam surfaces 10 disposed within the lower end of the plunger 2 of the shock absorber, the member 8 being fixed to the plunger and the member 9 being slidable and rotatable and being part of a member 13 to which the wheel carrying arm 3 is connected by the link 6. The plunger is non-rotatable and the arm 3 is pivoted to a bracket 7 rotatably mounted on the leg 1. A spring 11 acts to hold the cam members in contact.
