555,073. Feeding powder to moulds. GOLDING, W. F., and NUELL, A. P. March 23, 1942, No. 3822. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] Mechanism for feeding pre-determined quantities of powder into moulds, of the kind comprising a hopper, at the base of which is a plate or slide having a series of measuring holes, is furnished with means for increasing the quantities by first filling the holes with loose powder, pressing it down to form a cavity, and then feeding more powder to fill the cavity. A replaceable plate 4, Fig. 4, with holes 6 blocked by a ring 8, is intermittently rotated to bring the holes in succession beneath a hopper having two discharge orifices 13, 14 fitted with rotary stirrers. Between the orifices 13, 14, at the station 29, is an adjustable plunger 28, Fig. 5, operated by a cam-actuated lever 31 to effect the compression of the already loosely filled holes, the cavities then formed being filled when the holes pass under the aperture 14 ; the holes are discharged by a plunger 35. An oscillating blade is provided for agitating the powder in the hopper and means are provided for disengaging the clutch for operating the ejector in the absence of a mould.
