Abstract

554,957. Tractors; frames. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Le Tourneau, Inc., R. G.). April 21, 1942, No. 5362. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] A frame for a two-wheeled tractor comprises transversely-spaced enginesupporting bearings 4, projecting forwardly from a transmission housing 1 at least one of the beams 4 forming a fuel tank. In the construction shown a two-wheeled tractor unit has a transmission housing 1 formed with transverse walls 5 to which engine-supporting beams 4 are welded. These beams are hollow and project forwardly as shown, their forward ends being connected by a hollow transverse beam 10, the hollows in the beams 4 and 10 communicating to form a single fuel tank. The beams 4 are formed with ledges 7 on which the engine 9 is mounted. The transverse beam 10 carries the radiator 13 and is provided with a coupling member 14. A two-wheeled trailer unit, such as a scraper 15, is coupled at 17 to the tractor unit, the overhanging weight of the engine and fuel tank serving to balance the weight of the trailer.
