Abstract

554,956. Spring wheels. DEANE, H. H. B. April 1, 1942, No. 4319. [Class 144 (i)] In wheels of the kind described in Specifications 404,325 and 404,326, having axially disposed spring plungers 32 engaging conical recesses 16, single plungers in cylinders 23 open at one end are employed to reduce the thickness of the wheel. The plungers are in pairs engaging opposite faces alternately and are staggered around the wheel. The springs are preferably in three strengths 40, 42, 43 to come into action successively under increasing load, and may be pre-stressed. The springs bear on washers 37, 36 held in position by a central tube 38, and chambers 24 for lubricant supplied through nipples 28 communicate with the cylinders through ports 31. The arrangement may be applied to railway wheels.
