Abstract

554,852. Cable joints. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and SHUTTLEWORTH, H. March 31, 1942, No. 4303. [Class 38 (i)] A cable coupling of the type having the cable conductor ends 2 telescoped within a ferrule 3 so as to allow relative longitudinal movement, the conductors being electrically connected by means of flexible braids 6, has each braid bent laterally out of the radial plane in which the ends of the said braid lie so as to allow substantial movement without increasing the overall diameter of the coupling. The ends of the braids are secured by wiring and soldering at 7 these joints being covered with insulation 8. The centres of the braids are secured to the ferrule 3 by wiring 9 which is attached by solder 10, or by segments 13, Fig. 7, secured by screws 16. Alternatively the centres of the braids may be secured to a ring capable of rotary displacement around the ferrule. Where the braids are attached to the ferrule the longitudinal movement may be taken up by flexure of the braids only, or by rotation of the ferrule on the cable ends.
