Abstract
554,734. Modifying metallic surfaces. PYRENE CO., Ltd., (Parker Rust-Proof Co.). Feb. 2, 1942, No. 1382. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Ferrous articles, for example iron and steel sheets, are rendered resistant to corrosion by first coating them electrolytically with a zinc layer not more than 0.0001 inch thick and then forming thereover by chemical reaction a thin continuous fine-grained phosphate coating, not exceeding 1. 5 grams weight per square yard of surface, the plated articles preferably being passed between moistened india-rubber or like rolls immediately before or at the beginning of the coating process. The phosphate coating after baking is preferably rinsed in a dilute solution containing hexavalent chromium, i.e. chromic acid or a dichromate of metal other than an alkali metal.
