Abstract

554,132. Manufacture of asbestos-cement products. TURNER & NEWALL, Ltd., and TURNER, L. A. Dec. 16, 1941, No. 16254. [Class 96] An asbestos-cement or like slurry from a feed-trough 8 flows between a shoot 15 and a flexible gate 20 to a longitudiual wire cloth or woven fabric conveyer 1 which carries it past a gauge roller 29, over suction boxes between press rolls, over a' further suction box and e.g. to a mandrel upon which it is wound to form pipes &c. or to form sheets &c. The gate 20; shoot 15 and roller 29 are each shaken as by out-ofbalance armature mechanism and supported through shock absorbers 19 &c. and turn-buckles 56 &c. further, local, height adjustment for the gate 20 being provided at 59. The conveyer 1 passes over a transverse plate 25 mounted with shock absorbers 27 and shaken at 28, e.g. at 2,000 to 10,000 reciprocations per minute. The ratio of solids to water in the slurry is from 3 to 2, up to 3 to 20. The return run of the conveyer web 1 is cleaned by water sprays, a suction box, and a heater, and is sprayed at 40 adjacent the breast roll so that it is thoroughly wet before receiving slurry. The trough 8 is tilted at 12, 13, as disclosed in Specification 540,463, or the flow of slurry may be stopped by a hinged flap with a rubber pad contacting the overflow lip of a fixed trough.
