Abstract
554,120. Making hollow glassware. ENGEL, H. J. Aug. 19, 1941, No. 10522. [Class 56] Relates to a glassware forming machine of the kind in which a parison is transferred from a parison mould to a finishing mould by a manual operation, the neck mould being provided with handles for the purpose. According to the invention, the parison and the finishing mould containing it are rotated relatively to one another during the blowing operation in order to produce ware that is free from mould marks. In some cases, also, the charge of glass and the parison mould may be rotated relatively to one another. Low pressure air is used to blow the glass, and if desired, the air may be heated The moulds may be heated by burners which are arranged according to the kind of ware being produced. In applying the invention to a machine of the Schiller type, the neck mould is revolvably mounted and may be provided with a radial arm whereby it may be rotated by hand or by a crank operated by an electric motor. Rotation may be continuous in one direction, or the movement may be oscillatory. In an alteinative arrangement, the neck mould is stationary and the moulds are rotated or oscillated.
