[Class 100 (iv)] In record-card controlled mechanism comprising a type-carrier yieldingly urged into extreme position, a zoning-member movable parallel to the typecarrier is provided with a stop-pawl for coupling the zoning-member and type-carrier under control of a digit role, and another stop, controlled by a zoning role, co-operates with the zoning-member to limit further movement of the zoning-member and typecarrier. In the mechanism shown in the Fig., a type-bar 42 is raised, in synchronism with the movement of the record-card past reading-brushes LB, by means of an arm 40 which is connected to a spring 43 and is released and restored by a bail 39. A stop-pawl 80 for the type-bar is pivoted on a vertically movable zoning-bar 76, and co-operates with a pivoted finger 81 on a latch 78 is connected with the armature 83 of one of the reading-magnets 19. The latch co-operates also with a zoning-stop 77 adapted to engage notches o, x, r and a shoulder n on the zoning-bar. Before the 9-point passes the brushes bails 61, 71 free the stop-pawl 80 and latch 78. During passage of points 9 .. 0, the zoning-bar 76 and zoning-stop 77 are held by bails 51, 56. When the 8-hole, for instance, is read, the stoppawl 80 is released and engages the 8-notch in the type-bar. After the 1-point has been read, a bail 71 restores the latch and the bail 51 permits the zoning- bar to rise until the zoning-stop engages the shoulder n, the stop-pawl 80 causing the type-bar to rise with the zoning-bar until the 8-type is positioned. If a hole occurs also at the point 0, 11, or 12, the stop 77 is again released and engages the notch o, x, or r to arrest the type-bar when the y, q, or h type is positioned. When the 0, 11, or 12 hole occurs alone, the stop-pawl engages the 0-notch in the typebar, the zoning-stop engages the notch o, x, or r and one of the bottom three types is positioned. To permit of easy release of the stop-pawl by the bail 61 when the type-bar has been arrested after short movement, and is consequently under strong pressure from the spring 43, the type-bar is restrained by co-operation of one of a series of notches 7 . . * therein with a pawl 106 controlled by a bail 101.
