Abstract

1,002,052. Selective printers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. April 19, 1962 [May 29, 1961], No. 15194/62. Heading B6F. Type-case machines; hammer impression arrangements.-A print hammer mechanism, for a printer having a horizontal type bar 11 consisting of a flexible sheet metal comb with a plurality of types mounted in the distal end of each tooth of the comb, comprises a plurality of hammers 12, each having an armature portion held in engagement with a magnet 13 by energization of a winding 48 thereon, against the action of a cantilever leaf spring 21, whose leaf 26 overlaps a portion 19 of the hammer to urge the hammer into printing position when the magnet is de-energized. After a hammer has been fired, the leaf 26 comes to rest against a stop bail 32 and the hammer is restored to its rest position by a return spring 14 whereby the portion 19 of the hammer is arrested by a stop finger 31 provided on the distal end of leaf 27. When all the hammers have been fired, a shaft 39 carrying cams 37, 38 engaging rollers 42, 44 of a spring mounting bail 22 and a hammer drive mechanism 15, respectively, is rotated through one revolution to thereby move the mounting bail 22 and stop bail 32, on the drive mechanism 15, in an arcuate path to reset the leaf spring 21, so that the leaves 26 engage the portions 19 of the hammers once more (Fig. 2, not shown), the resetting movement being completed when the stop bail reaches the position indicated in Fig. 1.
