Abstract
554,070. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A., and NISSIM, R. Sept. 15, 1941, No. 10427. [Class 135] Apparatus for controlling a physical value comprises a differential piston and cylinder, means for supplying pressure fluid on each side of the piston and an escape valve for varying the pressure on one side of the piston in accordance with changes in the physical value. Preferably, the movement of the piston controls a power cylinder. In the form shown in Fig. 1, flow variation in a conduit 30 acts through an orifice plate 32, diaphragm 33, lever 34 and escape valve 35 to vary the pressure in the space on top of the differential piston 38. The piston is therefore moved so that relay valve members carried thereby alter the supply of pressure fluid from the space beneath the piston to the power cylinder 50 for operating the control valve 45, and the exhaust from the power cylinder. The valve members consist of rings 51, 52 provided with ports 47P, 47E and separated by a space C communicating with drain. In other forms, the escape valve may consist of a needle valve 35A, Fig. 3, co-operating with a port in the piston, and the latter may be formed so that the pressure within it is completely balanced. In a modification of any of the above-mentioned forms, two ports 47P, 47E are replaced by a single port 47P as shown in Fig. 4A, co-operating with adjacent ports 48P, 48E. When applied to the form shown in Fig. 3, the cross-section of the single port is equal to the sum of that of the adjacent ports. In a further form, an angularly adjustable escape valve 35C, Fig. 5, has longitudinal slots 73 co-operating with longitudinal slots 72 in the piston 38, and the chamber 64 communicates with a distant auxiliary cylinder 39A having a piston 38A which may control a power piston. Specification 438,020, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
