[Class 37] [Also in Group XIX] A totalizing means for use with a plurality of electricity meters or other measuring instruments of the kind provided with a contact device having an actuating member which is movable independently of the meter by electromagnetic means, comprises a pair of switches and an electromagnet for actuating the same in association with each meter. In the form shown each meter a has contacts b and an electromagnet c forming part of a contact device similar to that described in Specification 517,110, [Group XXXVII]. In accordance with the present invention each meter is associated with an electromagnet d adapted to actuate a pair of switches e, f. Each of the switches comprises a movable blade g and a pair of fixed contacts h and the switches are interconnected. by lines i, j. The upper fixed contacts of the switches e are connected by branch lines m to a common line n in circuit with an electromagnet o for actuating the totalizing mechanism. The branch lines m may contain electromagnets p forming part of a repeating mechanism. In operation when the contacts b in the meter close, the corresponding electromagnet d is energized to throw-over the switches e and f. Regarding switch c current now flows from the source of supply k, the upper contact h, branch line m to the totalizer actuating electromagnet o. Regarding switch f current will flow from the source k through contacts b, elecromagnet c line j to return line q. When electromagnet c is energized the contacts b are caused to open thereby de-energizing the electromagnet d and causing the switches e, f to resume their normal position.
