Abstract

552,873. Reinforced concrete. SCHORER, H. June 1, 1942, No. 7383. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1941. [Class 20 (iv)] Reinforcing wires 13 are held at each end during tensioning by an annular clamping device comprising radial wedge-shaped members 1 with grooves 2 receiving the ends of the wires, the members having inclined outer surfaces engaged by conical rings 8, which by longitudinal movement press against the wedge-shaped members forcing them together against the pressure of compression spacing springs 3. A central compression tube 14 abuts at one end against a screwed plug 25 in the sliding sleeve 9<SP>1</SP> around one of the clamping devices, and at the other end against a member 16 taking the reaction of the stressing force applied to the wires through a sliding sleeve 9 on the other clamping device by a screwed plunger 15 or by a hydraulic ram. The wires are spaced by discs 20 with edge recess receiving the wires. The compression tube is perforated and is surrounded by a filter fabric spaced from the tube by helical wire 22 to allow excess water and air to be drawn off from the surrounding plastic concrete.
