552,852. Face shields. FULLER, R. C. Oct. 23, 1941, No. 13639. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1940. [Class 63] [Also in Group XX] Relates to face shields adapted to be secured to the brim of a head covering and disposed at will either in a protective position close to the wearer or in a position in which the shield is close to the underside of the brim, and consists in the provision of a pair of hinged members spaced laterally and positioned rearwardly of a support element for a flexible transparent shield element,the hinged members carrying the shield being so arranged that when the shield is brought down its central portion is bulged so as to approximate to the shape of the face. The support 5 is secured to the underside of the brim of the head covering. Its extremities support a pair of hinge pins at an angle A to the general direction of the support, each pin engaging the rear end of a hinged member 10 secured to the screen and off set from the line perpendicular to the hinge. The screen is maintained in up or down position by flats on the hinges engaging extensions 7a of the rear ends of the support. The construction results in the shield, as it is lowered, becoming curved to fit the face.
