Abstract
552,663. Brazing. BONNEY, E. H., and NAYLOR, L. T. April 13, 1942, No. 4834. [Class 83 (iv)] A viscous brazing mixture consists of finely divided brazing metal suspended in a liquid vehicle that will not volatilize, saponify nor polymerize and that is chemically inactive to metals under normal conditions, the size of the metal particles and the consistency of the composition being such that before brazing the particles respond with the liquid to capillary attraction set up in crevices in the work. The liquid may be a pure thin mineral oil of the paraffin series such as medicinal paraffin or an aromatic compound. Brazing material such as commercial copper bronze powder is mixed with the mineral oil to form a compound having the consistency of a thin cream. The compound' is applied to the parts by dipping or spraying or by a brush. Heating may be effected to 1070‹ C. in an inert or reducing atmosphere. The compound may also be sprayed or brushed on surfaces preliminarily to joining by ordinary brazing to minimize decarbonization.
