Abstract
552,210. Razor blade holder. PIDGEN, A. Dec. 19, 1941, Nos. 16414/41 and 3361/42.. [Class 60] [Also in Group XIV] A holder for safety razor blades comprises two strips 11, 13, Fig. 1, riveted at 15 and provided respectively with projections 12 and holes 14 to accommodate a blade 18. The blade-holding ends of the strips 11, 13 are bevelled from the longitudinal centre line A, B outwards to the longitudinal edges so that the cutting edges of the blade lie approximately in the plane of each bevelled surface at the correct angle for stropping or honing. The short ends 16, 17 are internally bevelled so that they may be nipped together to separate the strips at their blade-holding ends. In a modification strips 19, 20, Fig. 3, are riveted at 23 and provided with a spring washer at the joint so that the short ends 21, 22 may be nipped together to separate the strips at the blade end. The edges of the narrower handle are serrated to provide a grip. A sheath handle 25 may also be provided comprising two strips 26, 27 mounted on the rivet 23 and having bevelled surfaces. The strips 26, 27 are also joined by a rivet 28. A strop for use with the razor may be formed of a thin slab of compressed cork composition oiled and treated with powdered chromium oxide. The strop and razor may be accommodated together in a suitable case.
