Abstract

[Class 38 (ii)] A polyphase transformer has a core structure comprising concentric cylindrical or prismatic yokes 1, 3 bridged by radially disposed legs 2 carrying the primary and secondary windings 8, 9. The centre yoke 3, or an inner part thereof, is mounted on a rotatable shaft 6 and may be provided with a squirrel-cage winding 10 so that it rotates when the transformer is energized and drives a fan 13 whereby cooling air may be drawn through the casing 4, and if desired through other apparatus such as an induction, regulator. motor, or rectifier mounted above the transformer. Alternatively, the transformer may be oil-cooled, in which case the shaft 10 may drive an impeller for circulating the oil.
