[Class 60] A vacuum chuck or work holder comprises a block 1, Fig. 1, having a work-receiving face 5 connected by channels 8 with a suction chamber 2 at the base of the block the face 5 being formed with one or more recesses 6, 7, Fig. 2, not connected with the chamber 2 and deep enough to accommodate projecting parts on the workpiece or to permit drilling and like operations without damage to the face 5. Pins or dowels or side checks projecting above the face 5 may be provided for locating the workpiece.
