Abstract

1,124,733. Tool-changing. WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK SAALFELD VEB. 14 July, 1966, No. 31603/66. Heading B3B. A machine tool comprises a headstock 1 having two tool spindles 2, 3 spaced angularly by 45 to 135 degrees and two tool-magazines 5, 6 positioned so that the headstock can be moved to pick up a tool from either magazine. In operation, a used tool 7 in the spindle 3 is swung towards its appropriate magazine 5 and a wedge bar 22 is released to allow a spring 23 to operate tool-gripping arms 17.1 to clamp the tool in the magazine. The magazine 5 is then moved axially, together with the magazine 6, to. withdraw the tool 7 from the headstock spindle. The magazine 5 is indexed by a Geneva mechanism 10, 13, 16 and the magazines are then moved to place a new tool in the spindle 7. In a modification, the magazines 5, 6, Fig. 4, are displaced individually along guides 28. The spindles need not be co-planar.
